Karbonite & Asphalt

CO₂-Negative Roads for the Future
Roads are essential to our economy—but conventional asphalt is carbon-intensive, short-lived, and costly to maintain. By replacing traditional fillers like limestone or Portland cement with Karbonite, asphalt becomes stronger, longer-lasting, and actively CO₂-negative.

Why Asphalt Needs Innovation
Fillers play a small but vital role in asphalt—reinforcing strength, adhesion, and durability.
However, conventional fillers come with major drawbacks:
• Up to 100 kg CO₂ emissions per ton
• Poor freeze–thaw resistance
• Frequent maintenance, short lifespan
Result: higher environmental impact and long-term costs.

Karbonite: A Carbon-Storing Filler
Karbonite is a patented material made from activated olivine. It reacts with CO₂ during production to form stable magnesium carbonates and amorphous silica.
Key benefits:
• Captures 143 kg CO₂ per ton
• Uses 50% less energy than cement
• Needs no freshwater or river sand
• Insulating value: 0.35 W/m·K
• Lifespan: up to 90 years

Performance Advantages
Karbonite works seamlessly in hot and warm mix asphalt—no changes needed to existing infrastructure.
Once inside, performance is radically improved:
• Densified microstructure = less permeability
• Superior freeze–thaw durability (tested in Central Asia)
• Stronger adhesion between bitumen and aggregate
• Lower water sensitivity = less cracking and rutting
• 30–50% fewer maintenance cycles over the lifespan

Real-World Impact
Paving just 1 km of road (5 m wide, 8% filler) with Karbonite results in:
• Up to 11.5 tons of CO₂ removed
• 30–50% longer service life
• Significantly reduced maintenance costs

Roads That Heal the Climate
Karbonite turns asphalt into part of the climate solution—capturing CO₂ while outperforming on durability, cost, and sustainability.
The future of roads isn’t black.
It’s green. And it starts with Karbonite.

Biobased, biodegradable & circular surfacing for next-generation play and sports infrastructure

What is LoopGreen?

LoopGreen™ is a breakthrough technology that transforms locally sourced grass clippings into high-performance, shock-absorbing surfaces for playgrounds, parks, and sports facilities. It offers a fully biodegradable alternative to synthetic rubber flooring, which is increasingly regulated due to its microplastic emissions and fossil-based inputs.

  • 80%+ biodegradability within 24 months
  • Made from 50–80% grass fibers and 15–45% biobased binders
  • UV-stable, structurally resilient, and water-permeable
  • Available in loose-fill granules or molded slabs (20–100 mm thick)
  • End-of-Life: After 5 – 7 years of service, the biodegraded tiles can be collected and composted

Compliant with EN 1177 safety standards for impact surfaces
Patent-pending process (PCT filing in progress)

 Why it matters

The €4.2 billion European market for outdoor surfacing is under pressure from tightening environmental regulations, particularly around microplastics. At the same time, municipalities generate vast quantities of grass waste — currently underutilized or composted at cost.

LoopGreen closes this loop by turning grass into a carbon-efficient, locally manufactured product with strong commercial and environmental value.

Carbon Credits: A Valuable Opportunity

Because LoopGreen replaces high-emission synthetic rubber, every 1 ton of LoopGreen installed avoids up to 3 tons of CO₂ emissions — making it eligible for “avoided emissions” carbon credits under most major carbon accounting frameworks.

This enables partners to:

  • Generate verified carbon credits (e.g. through VCS or Gold Standard)
  • Sell them into voluntary or compliance markets (e.g. ESG buyers, EU ETS Article 6 pilot schemes)
  • Add a highly lucrative secondary revenue stream to their business model

The combined effect of cost savings + carbon credit revenue makes the LoopGreen model especially attractive for sustainability-focused cities and infrastructure contractors.

 A fully circular model

  1. Collection – Municipalities gather grass from public spaces
  2. Processing – Material is dried, refined, and blended locally
  3. Installation – Surfaces are installed in public or private environments
  4. End-of-life – Biodegradable components compost naturally
  5. Renewal – Compost nourishes new grass → a closed-loop cycle
